What you are probably seeing
You see a link promising high returns or a giveaway that looks professional, but the URL contains odd spelling or uses a free hosting subdomain like webflow.io. The site mimics a well-known brand with official logos, yet the domain age is very recent or the registrar information is hidden behind privacy services.
In your own work or social feeds, you encounter links that redirect multiple times or ask for wallet seeds. These pages often lack HTTPS security warnings, but the visual design is convincing enough that it passes a quick glance, making it hard to distinguish the scam from the legitimate source.
Why it happens
Scammers use lookalike domains and free or cheap hosting platforms to mimic trusted brands because it is difficult for users to spot subtle differences in URLs or ownership details. They rely on the volume of their campaigns and the speed of their exits to maximize profits before the domain is reported or shut down.
The crypto industry moves fast and many new projects are legitimate, which creates confusion. Attackers exploit this by buying domains that sound authoritative or using typosquatting, ensuring that even small mistakes in typing a URL lead victims to a fake site controlled by the attacker.
What changed recently
2026-10-07 · I try to find joy in my job where I can
(Tangem is a company that makes software wallets for crypto and NFTs (lmao, who even still has NFTs in 2026?) and may or may not also be a scam)
OSINT tools now expose these fakes by checking domain data:
• cl0q found 34 results for ‘crypto giveaway’
• Fake SpaceX site spacex-ipo.xyz identified
• Phishing link crappo-fake-crypto-investment-wallet.webflow.io flagged

Step by step
1. Check the domain registration date using a free WHOIS lookup tool to see if the site was created recently, which is a common sign of a phishing operation.
2. Search the exact URL or domain name in a threat intelligence feed or OSINT tool to see if it has been flagged by other users or security researchers as malicious.
3. Verify the link by going directly to the official website or app and looking for the official URL, rather than clicking links in social media messages or emails.
4. Review the SSL certificate and confirm that the domain matches the expected organization; if the certificate is free, expired, or issued to a different entity, do not proceed.
5. Use a disposable wallet with no significant funds to test the interaction if you must engage, and never share your seed phrase or connect your main wallet to the site.
