Which Alison Excel Course Should You Take?

A beginner course and a longer Excel 365 path solve different problems. Choose based on current comfort, time and the spreadsheet work you actually need to do.

Best for

  • Learners deciding between a compact Excel foundation and a longer course
  • Office users who want to match training depth to real spreadsheet work

Not ideal for

  • Advanced analysts who mainly need specialist Power Query, DAX or enterprise BI training

Start with your current spreadsheet problem

If formulas, formatting, references and basic charts are still unfamiliar, start with the beginner course. If those are already comfortable and the real need is broader data management, the longer Excel 365 course is the stronger fit.

Microsoft Excel Training for Beginners

The current course page lists a 4–5 hour beginner format covering the interface, formatting, common functions, cross-sheet references, formula errors and basic charts.

Microsoft Excel 365: From Beginner to Pro

The current course page lists a longer 6–10 hour advanced path with areas such as Get & Transform, filtering and sorting, document output and broader data management.

When Power BI is the better next step

If your real goal is interactive reporting rather than spreadsheet mastery, a Power BI introduction may be more relevant than taking another overlapping Excel course.

Bottom line

Use Excel training to solve a visible workbook problem. Once spreadsheet fundamentals stop being the bottleneck, move to analytics, automation or BI rather than repeating beginner content.

Limitations

What this does not solve.

  • Excel version details and interfaces can change.
  • Course completion alone does not create spreadsheet fluency without real workbook practice.

Decision

Choose the beginner course if you need reliable everyday spreadsheet fundamentals; choose the longer Excel 365 path when you already know you want broader data-management depth.
