What you are probably seeing

You notice a higher total token count in your dashboard even when the code output length remains the same as previous runs. The usage reports show more input tokens being consumed during the conversation initiation and context setup phases.

You see a new prompt asking for feedback at the end of your coding sessions. This addition creates a small but cumulative increase in the interaction history that gets processed in subsequent turns of the conversation.

Why it happens

The suggested answers feature requires the model to generate multiple potential responses or options before you select one. This generation process consumes output tokens that are not always part of the final accepted code but still count toward your total usage.

The new feedback prompts add extra turns to the conversation history. Each time the session continues, the model must read this expanded context, which increases the input token cost for every subsequent request in that session.

What changed recently

Step by step

1. Export your recent usage data and calculate the average token cost per session before and after the feature update to identify the exact delta.

2. Monitor the input token counts specifically during the initial phase of new sessions to measure the overhead from the suggested answer generation.

3. Review the cost impact of the new feedback prompts by checking if the final turn of each session requires a disproportionate number of input tokens.

4. Compare the total monthly spend against your previous baseline to determine if the token burn rate has crossed a budget threshold that requires action.

5. Adjust your session management habits by closing unused sessions promptly to prevent the expanded context from incurring idle costs.
